LaFONTAINE AND TEAM CiC TO TACKLE 25TH ANNUAL SUBARU IRONMAN CANADA
NHL Hall-of-Famer’s swimming, biking and running to raise awareness and funds for charity that builds game rooms in children’s hospitals Huntington, NY, August 1, 2007
Having already successfully completed four Ironman Triathlon events in the United States, Pat LaFontaine is taking his “Iron act” across the border to Canada for the 25th Annual Subaru Ironman Canada event scheduled for August 26th in Penticton, British Columbia. As in every previous Ironman event, LaFontaine and Team CiC are looking to raise awareness and money in support of his Companions in Courage (www.CiC16.org) Foundation. The group’s goal is to continue building interactive game rooms in children’s hospitals throughout North America.
LaFontaine will be joined by Bob DeAngelo of Greenwich, CT, Bill Isenberg of Fort Salonga, NY and Pete Smith of Huntington, NY on one of the most beautiful Ironman Triathlon courses in the world. The four Ironmen plan to stay together during the entire event to raise even more awareness along the route. They will all swim 2.4 miles in Okanagan Lake, then ride their bikes for 112 miles and complete the Iron feat with a 26.2-mile run. LaFontaine said, “The first time I did an Ironman event in 2003, our group stayed together for the entire event. We got lots of positive comments and well wishes because we were together all day, so we decided to enjoy the event at Penticton the same way.”
Ryann Fraser the 18-year-old daughter of Sue and Graham Fraser (president of North America Sports) will compete in her first-ever Ironman Triathlon event. She will also be competing as a member of Team CiC and hopes to help the sick kids in hospitals who will benefit from her participation. She said, “I don’t know if I could do this unless I was doing it for a cause like the CiC Foundation.” LaFontaine said, “I am extremely proud of Ryann and anyone else who is motivated to help others through these Ironman Triathlon events. She is a true companion in courage”.
The hockey legend will also participate in a charity hockey game in Penticton as part of the 25th annual celebration of the world’s second longest running Ironman Triathlon event. LaFontaine will join “Team Ironman” as they face off against a team of NHL stars in a charity hockey game to benefit local charities in Penticton.
