INAUGURAL CiC GOLF CLASSIC SLATED FOR
HISTORIC WINGED FOOT
Celebrities to tee it up on September 8th
MAMARONECK, NY, March, 2003 - The Board of
Governors at historic Winged Foot Golf Club has
unanimously agreed to host the first annual CiC
Golf Classic on Monday, September 8th on the
historic West course. Considered by most
professional and amateur golfers as the ultimate
golfing experience, Winged Foot brings together
a long history and tradition of golf's greatest
players and tournaments. Soon to host the 2004
Amateur Open and the 2006 U.S. Open, Winged Foot
continues to challenge the very best. The
Companions in Courage Foundation is proud to be
part of this great tradition.
Proceeds from this outing will be used by the
CiC Foundation to continue our work with
children's hospitals. Our immediate goal is to
build interactive playrooms (the "Lion's Den")
in children's hospitals throughout North
America. Through innovative communications
tools, these playrooms will replace the
isolation of a hospital with a connection to
family, friends and celebrities during each
child's hospital stay.
Pat LaFontaine will welcome many former
teammates, some old foes, and a host of
celebrities to the event. Each foursome will be
joined by an NHL alumnus or a celebrity, to
ensure a memorable round of golf on the
venerable course. Among those already scheduled
to attend are Mike Bossy, Bryan Trottier, Dennis
Leary, Marcel Dionne, Michael Peca, Rod Gilbert
and Mike Richter. As more celebrities confirm,
they will be listed on the foundation's website
(www.CiC16.org).
In order to enhance the quality of the
experience for each foursome, the foundation
will limit the number of attendees. LaFontaine
said, "It isn't often that you get the chance to
play on one of the most prestigious courses in
the world with one of your favorite celebrities.
We want to make each golfer's day a memorable
one."
There are many unique amenities planned for the
day. Each golfer will receive a special gift
from their celebrity partner, as well as a
credit for use in the Winged Foot Pro Shop. Some
sponsors will also get an additional 9 holes of
golf in the morning on the competitive East
course as a tune-up to the afternoon on the Pro
West course.
Because Companions in Courage Foundation is a
not-for-profit organization, a portion of all
sponsor/participant fees is tax-deductible. For
more information on the event, please visit our
website at www.CiC16.org or call the foundation
at 914-325-4870.
